Chiropractors?

Like everyone one else here's my two cents. I recall growing up watching my Grandfather fighting miserable back pain, a man with a very high pain tolerance. Chiropractors helped but I believe his damage was to far gone to fix. He had his lower back fused to help, "worst decision of my life".

My experience was with (my opinion) a true quack chiropractor. Dude was far out there in my opinion. Running his service out of his home wearing a Tshirt. But he came highly recommended and is a graduate of Palmer. I had to push myself up from the chair I was sitting in to greet him. Long story short the next day I was setting roof trusses. I asked him when I was leaving when I should come back. He looked at me like I was stupid and said when I hurt again. It's been over a year now, I've been back once just for an adjustment so I don't get back where I was.

It's like every service provider when you find the right one you know. Get away from the ones who try to cheat you and then bleed you dry.

Last June in ure I was backing away from getting intake cooked burritos off the truck engine and my heel caught a rock. To stop myself from falling backwards, I twisted and jerked myself towards the truck so I could grab the exocage and stop my fall. By the time I got home my back was sore but not too bad. Monday at work I had to mount a set of 37s for a squatting z71, Tuesday afternoon I had to pull a Nissan fwd transmission to replace the clutch. Each day it got worse, by Wednesday at lunch I couldn't lift my arms over my head, my boss had to reinstall the transmission while I sat in a chair and told him which bolts I pulled from where. I had to borrow my dad's truck because I couldn't press the clutch pedal in mine.

I'd always thought chiropractors were quacks but I was desperate for relief, my boss had our office lady call a chiro who had traded with us in the past and get me worked in. The chiro checked me out and said based on the way I could move my back and where it hurt I had a bulged disc on l4 or l5. He did the usual stretching and popping of my back and the pain was much better. He showed me how to protect the area until it could heal, such as how to sit or stand from a chair, showed me some basic stretching exercises to help the disc swelling go down and strengthen the muscles in the area so they could take the strain off my spine. As soon as I left his office my muscle spasms had gone away. I took a few days off work and by the following Monday I was back at work full time.

When I had a kidney stone in December the ct scan showed degenerative disc disease between l4 and 5 so he called that one right. His adjustments gave me temporary relief of my pain and his advice on the exercises helped me build it up so I haven't had a problem since then. He told me to call if I needed to come back but it probably wasn't necessary and he was right.

All that said this guy isn't one of those ambulance chasing chiros you hear ads on TV and radio for all the time, but he stays busy. I think that makes the difference.

PT all the way. I went so far as to send them a Christmas card the year when they fixed my back. I was soooooo happy. many years later no 'real' debilitating issues unless I do something asinine because I feel 16 and really am 44. when it does act up, it reminds me to do the exercises they taught me and it goes right away.
