I think my 98 S-10 cat is stuffed up, anyway to prove that or unchoke it w/o messin up the sensors/computer/inspection tests?

Gut it and get an O2 simulator. All the 2nd O2 sensor does is monitor cat performance. It dosent effect fuel settings.

I thought this thread was about something else...

Thats the chicken there big guy...
Female version of the same idea. Like punching the chipmunk, flicking the bean, buttering the bagel, digging the stench trench, Jilling off, muffin buffing, etc....

Dude you have too much spare time.....I never heard of any of those!!

you can disconnect the upper O2 sensor. It will likely cause it to run rich, but might prove that the cat is stopped up. Last time I had a vehicle that had a plugged cat it felt like i was running on half power. I removed the upper O2 and it immediately felt better. I replaced the cat with a universal, but gutting is also an option.

4.3, I think it has 2 sensors?............would gutting the cat cause problems w the sensors/ECM and emissions inspection?

the front o2's control fuel ratio's, the rear monitors the cat efficiency. if you move the rear o2 out of the air stream it thinks the cat is working it's ass off .

if you want to know if the cats clogged, you can pull the front o2 (to relieve back pressure) and if it runs better it is most likely clogged.

If you have a temp gun, check the differential temp I front and behind of cat. Take a temp of a good running engine and get a base. Take a laser temp gun to the s10 and se the difference. Checking temps on a engine can tell you so much about what is defective

Toll distributors also sell a gauge you screw into the upstream O2 port.. something like over 1-2 psi (Dont quote me on the exact number) the cat is plugged/excess backpressure (I suppose you could compare the number to downstream sensor location).

A chocked cat results in super hot exhaust. If you put your hand at the exhaust pipe and the exhaust is extremely hot, that's a good sign that its clogged.
