Looking for a tracLoc limited slip unit for my 8.25 I have a 01 xj so a 29 spline 8.25. What other vehicles can I get a tracLoc limited slip unit out of besides a 97 and newer xj? Will the durango or liberty work? If so what years? Also if other vesicles what other ones and what years? Looking to hit up the junk yards soon to start my search.

Thanks guys!

Just a quick search shows:

97-up Dakota
97-up XJ
02-up Liberty (KJ)
1500 Ram and Vans, didn't find years for these.

Could be more, but that's all I found without digging more.

Just out of curiosity, why would you want a trac-loc over a locker? Kind of a useless upgrade if you're on the rocks a lot.

Thanks smokeater!

Chevy i agree, but this jeep spends 90% of it's life on the road, money is an issue so ARB's, ox lockers, and E-lockers are out do to cost. Lunch box lockers are good on prices but not exactly what I want to have on my DD (on the rear axle) due to there road manor. A Detroit would be nice but even though it is cheaper than the selectable lockers, I still don't have $600+ for a locker, mostly because I am trying to get the ring and pinions done. So I figured a junk yard Trac-Loc and a aussie up front would still make it pretty good off road and still keep it good on road. Mostly the up front cost of the ring and pinion getting done is what is killing me, i am unable to do them at my place (due to HOA Laws and the more expensive tools that i due not have) so just trying to build a good street rig that still preforms good on the rocks.

smokeater, were did you find that info? just google? I tried looking before I posted this, but all I could find was the info for the older 8.25 not the newer 29 splines. So just wanted to ask so next time I would know were to look before I post.
Thanks

You just explained my entire delima from last summer. You mentioned "road manor," I have ridden in trucks and jeeps with spartan lockers and now my cherokee has one. Forget the trac loc, it will only be there sometimes. As soon as you hit the dirt, rocks, pavement, whatever...a spartan locker will be there when you need it for half of the price of a selectable. If you had to compare road manors between my trail cherokee and the other bone stock cherokee you would have no idea there was even a locker. You may hear the clicking but that is it.

Do this right here. Took me less than an hour to install. I ordered mine from a vendor on pirate4x4 for much cheeper.

I agree with oleblue. The Trac-loc is pretty useless. Mine is new and it only feels like it works in the snow. You'll find yourself riding the brakes off-road to force it to work. I have an Aussie locker in my CJ5. Even with it's short wheel base I rarely notice it's there other than the ratcheting when turning.
