So I went to the circus last night and I wasn't really that impressed being it's the last year they are going to do it. I would have thought they would have went all out and had a crazy show or something. But I did get to witness something I never have encountered before. A whole family sitting in front of us refused to stand for the national anthem. I was surprised at how pissed off I got about it. One of the women actually saying "Fuck that, I'm not standing up". I was really tempted to kick that bitch down the steps. I never really thought much about it when I see that kind of stuff on TV or the internet, but it really hit me when I witnessed it first hand.

We thought about going and taking our 6 yr old boy since this will be his only opportunity to see the circus, but eventually decided against going.

Here's a legitimate question I have about standing for the anthem...what's proper etiquette for when and where to stand??? When I'm at the event, I always stand. But if I'm watching on tv and they play the anthem, I'm generally half a bottle of bourbon in, chip crumbs on my chest and in my boxers...am I supposed to stand for that? Where's the line drawn? I know there's flag etiquette, but is there anthem etiquette? It plays you stand...you hear it live you stand...or is it just out of respect???

The only animals they had were tigers, camels, and poodles. And a lady sitting behind us offended by it saying "Yea, that's why you are going out of business". Bitch, if you don't like it, then why even come?

A Circus without elephants is no circus at all.

I'll have to post a crazy cool job story I ahve about Ringling Bros...but I might need to let the statute of limitations run out. lol

When I work concessions stands at the Coliseum, if the anthem is played loud enough for me to hear it (which is almost always is), I stop what I'm doing, even if I'm in mid order and stand at attention, hand over heart, hat removed. It has pissed some people off that were in line for their hot dog and fries, but that's how I was raised. Even at home if I'm watching a ball game. Most times I'll even stand for the Canadian anthem if the Wings are playing the Maple Leafs, etc. It's respect. Wouldn't be much of a point in having an anthem if it wasn't worthy of the respect of what it stands for. Thing is - just like a marriage - our citizenship in this country is for better or for worse, richer or poorer, till death do us part. We can't pick and choose which parts of being an American suit us and only focus on them. We have to take it as a whole. I'm not proud of many of the things in our nation's past and present, but on the whole, it is still the greatest nation that ever was. I feel safe in my home. I'm not worried about death squads coming to take my property or life. I'm not worried about my neighbors knowing I'm a Christian for fear that they turn me in to the government. Are there problems in our government, law enforcement and court system? Of course there are. Are there times that the good guy gets punished and the bad guy goes free? Absolutely. It's not a perfect system and it never will be, but it still beats any system out there that I have found.

I have to work at the Circus tonight as a matter of fact. I'll be slinging beers, cooking up hot dogs, filling popcorn bags or something all night. Except when they play the anthem. :)

I prefer the Cirque shows to Ringling Bros. Saw Cirque Extreme last year at the beach. It had a steam punk theme and I wondered if @XJsavage was in it.
Oh I was there. Between that and opera concerts I stay busy.

We went last year, happened to get lucky and catch the last show with elephants.
There was a family next to us, they didn't stand for the anthem either, I didn't say anything, didn't want to ruin the night. They looked like full-blooded American negroes, not African or Arab or anything international. Pissed me off though, I didn't like it one bit. And this was before Colin Kaepernick showed his dumb ass.
Anyways, what I thought was really crazy was those motorcycles in the giant steel ball cage. Seemed like I only remember 2 or 3 bikes in there back in the day. Last year there was a whole fleet, they just kept upping the ante...

Working for the government... I get enough of the circus at work.

Yea, I went last year too and thought it was much better than this year. A few of the people that refused to stand for the anthem last night had their underwear on their head. I'm assuming they were all together.
