The part about renters not paying property tax is bs. They pay rent which in some part covers the tax.

no.
The owner pays the property tax. Whether that renter occupies or not, he still has to pay the property tax.

Exactly. Every owner of every property (unless exempt for a park / special use for the city / other?) pays property taxes.

Just an excuse to draw more money.

Pretty sure the renters money is used by the owners to pay the property taxes.

Again, even if the renter moves out the owner still pays the property tax. So the renter cant claim to pay the property tax. The renter pays only for his use of the property. And the owner pays income tax on the rent paid.

Not going to argue but portion of the income I get from my tenants goes toward property tax. Yes when it is unoccupied I cover that portion.

The line about renters is a bullshit excuse to try and sway public opinion. Why would the city council care about renters who "don't pay property taxes". It's just another way to justify more revenue, and taxing motor vehicle property is one way to do it.

Now rentes do not pay property tax on the building and land they rent. As stated above, the property owners do. I bet the IRS would bring the smackdown on any renter trying to itemize property tax on something they don't own.

That's how you decide to delegate the income from your renters. Ultimately, YOU are paying the tax if you own the property.

The vehicle tax is total bullshit.

Anybody else who lives in a municipality pays property tax on their vehicles. Getting rid of it is one of the nice things about moving to the county.

But the argument about renters is an interesting one. What if you're leasing the car? Then no property tax, right?

Exactly, I already pay a city vehicle tax. This would be another tax on this same vehicle.

Been a long time since I leased but I believe the property tax was rolled into the payment. Just found an article online saying that stopped with the tax & tag together program so sounds like leasees now get the property tax bill directly.
