I am new to Jeeps. I have limited engine experience. My 1980 CJ7 was running perfect when I bought it last year. Even made several 3 hour trips with it. Now the heater will not heat up, and it smells like it is burning. I have checked the basic fluids.

Also, it seems to flood when I give it gas. Like the carb is not working correctly.

inline 6 - original carb. Engine recently rebuilt.

From past projects I know that I am not the guy to trouble shoot this myself. I just was not blessed with the patients. I would rather just drive.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic that will look at this for me?

Have you checked your coolant level? If it gets to low the heat won't work. Burning smell would be from engine getting to hot. Maybe thermostat is stuck. Temp gauge work?

Just some ideas

It could be as simple as the blower motor is stuck and thats what you smell. Does it blow out when you turn the fan on? And your heater core could be stopped up or was it hooked up when the motor was rebuilt? As far as running does it have points or has a vacuum line fell off. How long since the rebuild?

check to see if an animal climbed up in your heater box. Toasty kitty.
