I'm sorry if this has already been brought up but i couldnt find it. I have a 2005 TJ with a D30 up front and i wanted to try to weld on some CJ knuckles and fit these warn locking hubs i've got in it. Im an old school fan and im pretty sure it would be a lot more reliable. I also wanted to run a high steer kit off of this set up. Pros? cons? problem areas i need some info. Ohh and also i need CJ knuckles if anyone is selling.

Not sure if thats possible but spyntec makes a kit to convert to lock outs but its way pricey(1500). Also no need for hysteer but you could ditch the y-link set up for a tie rod draglink set up with 1 ton tre's.

that is a nice setup for the price.... i would deff do that before swapping out inner Cs...

Without those special knuckles you would have to cut off the factory inner "C" and weld on a d44 inner "C". The balljoints in a d44 are pressed in the outer and bolt into the inner pointing up... the newer dana 30 point down into the outer knuckle

I disagree Ben, I've seen Gotwood rip his balljoints out of the knuckle at the farm. Seen it on the trail at ure a few times.
My .02 for $259 a side plus shipping. I'd go the d44 knuckle inner & outer swap.

Depending on the budget & cost of shafts of course.

& I want to just replace the whole d30 but this is a low budget build and there nothing wrong from my understanding about running a d30 for mild to moderate wheeling applications. A 30 is a pretty stout axel

Find a front out of a 80 waggy. Rear 8.8. spartan or lock rite for both.

I would say that if you are ripping out balljoints in a d30, you are probably breaking other d30 parts as well.

If you are skilled enough to do a inner knuckle swap on the d30, you could fab up brackets to put in a d44 for not much more... if not the Reid Racing upgrade above is a fairly bolt in solution, but ultimately wont be that cheap & will only be eliminating unitbearings...

You could do a WJ knuckle upgrade to get high steer & keep unit bearings...

I agree, about breaking other parts.

Inner knukle swap is not nearly as difficult as welding all the brackets on another axle.

Seems like somebody had a kit for the d44 swap? Nearly bolt on truss type. Maybe somebody will chime in..

Tnt and ballistic both made something like that. There is no way I would spend the 400 per side that reid knuckles, and 44 spindles/rotors/calipers/hubs/outers cost and not spend the $250 that a d44 costs and swap it in. You're not going to end up with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern either way so you're going to need new wheels.
