I have a 72 and an 80 cj5. I have the 80 completely stripped down to the frame (rolling chasis). Is a SOA as easy as it looks (just flipping the hardware and sitting it up there and re-tighten) or is there more to it than that? Thanks.

Drive shafts and brake lines too.

sounds like there are several things I had not taken into account. I new the brake lines would need to be longer but I had not thought of the drive shaft lengths/angles. Is a suspension lift a better option?

Yes, for someone who wants to bolt something on and fahgetaboudit

don't forget "flipping the hardware" means cutting off the spring perches and rewelding on the other side. Minor time to some, major/impossible for others.

If i do the SOA should I use the CJ springs, wrangler springs, aftermarket springs? My hangers are rusted too so I wanted to get new ones of those also.

X2 Also you have to rememmber to set up your caster angle before welding the perches in on the front and driveshaft angle on the rear. A poorly thought out SOA is a really scary thing to drive, but if you research it enough (and there are PLENTY of write-ups on the web) you should be really happy with the result

Thanks for all the advise. I have heard the same thing about pirate4x4.... ask a question and you get burned. What "bolt on" lift kits do you suggest? I think I like the looks of around 4 inchs. Both cj's currently have 33x12.50s on them.

Yeah

You got to be careful with pirate4x4.com

The thing is there are a lot of people who think they know what they're talking about, but they really have no freaking clue. There are a lot who do know their :poop: though.

A lot of times if you're not taking a TJ and bolting in a set of 60s that you bought already built, they don't want to talk to you.

I'll make thus more complicated. While you're at it, you might as well upgrade the axles. At least put in some later widetrack axles.
