Its time to redo the barkes on the cj5 and i know i could have either 11x2 or 10x2 shoes. How do i need to measure them to get the right ones?

Also i have a disc brake front axle Im goin to use and swap the outers to replace my front drums. If i posted up a pick could someone I.D. them for the posible year? Or are there some measurments i could take from the rotor or bolt pattern for calipers etc to I.D. them?

"6-bolt" caliper brackets (bolts over spindles) = '78-'79 "Big Brakes" w/ 1.125" thick rotors, NT D30

"2-bolt" caliper brackets (bolts to outer knuckles) = '80-'86 w/ .875" thick rotors, later years WT D30... rotors are less expensive/easier to source

If you have the earlier "Big Brake" junk, swapping it on without changing the knuckles is simple. I did the swap years ago with no issues... only a HUGE improvement (pics of 6-bolt caliper brackets & the rest of the story)

You'll likely want to ditch the drum-drum MC for a disc-drum MC. IIRC, we used an early model Vette MC (manual) on my brothers CJ7 (my lines are on the opposite side, so used a Marquis MC)...

10x2" ? I thought the later (80s) rear drums were 10x1.5". Anyways, the later model 10" drums are smooth, the 11x2" drums are finned.

alrighty if that holds true for the earlier cj5s then I currently have 11x2 drums all around, b/c I know all the drums are finned, thanks

On my 79 CJ, Factory bigges Disc, on front, had the 10", on rear. Swapped in a 78 rear amc, which had 11" drums. AMC/JEEP did a mid year change 78/79; had to get the 78 MC, for wheel cly. difference, on rear. Manuel brakes, wish I had done the Vett thing. I need more MC pressure, & don't like boosters.
