Guys I just picked up a decent little 75' five today. It has a lot of new parts and runs clean. Drivetrain is a 258, T-18 (~4:1 1st), D20, Disk D30 frt, AMC 20 rear (welded). It has 2.5" SU lift and 32x11.50's. I just want to use it basically the way it is for mild wheeling and trail beating. Kind of treating this like a sammi type build something small, inexpensive, and fun.
My question is: What do I need to do to get Power Steering on it? A parts list would be nice and what vehicle(s) to source the parts from. I noticed that the crank pully has an extra grove for another belt. I assume it should be a fairly simple swap.
I would also like to improve the brakes some. It has power disks, but a larger booster/master would be great. Is there something fairly bolt-on that could be swapped in? Maybe a YJ booster/master? Not sure if it would work right w/ the CJ pedals.
Eventually I would like to do Toyota mini truck axles for many reasons. I don't really want it any higher than it is, so if I do the toy axles I may want to stay sprung under w/ the springs that are on it, OR try stock YJ's w/ frenched mounts in the front and something sprung under in the rear... possibly waggy or trooper springs. I am afraid the waggy's might be too long. The largest tire I would ever run is a 33" maaaaybe 36's.
Any build ideas are def welcome, I'm not terribly familiar with jeeps as far as part interchangeability and such. I mainly want to get power steering on it right away and bring it up to snuff. Oh... and either add some triangulation to the existing pipe cage or start from scratch.
If anyone w/ some CJ lug pattern, white wagon wheels would like to swap for the Aluminum ones on the Jeep holla
Here are a few quick pics I snapped:
