What is the best way to clean an old aluminum tool box? Does someone make a product that will clean and polish the metal? Or would it be the best to break out the Mother's and a buffer?

Be aware...

If the tool box is anodized, DO NOT use anything that is an acid base, as is so many alum cleaners. It will destroy the anodizing and the alum will start to corrode. If it isnt anodized, dont use anything acid based as it will turn it white! (and it will corrode! LOL)

If it is anodized, use a good cleaner/degreaser, and use a mild polish such as neverdull, or something made for anodized alum. and be gentle. If it isnt anodized, use any good cleaner/degreaser and polish it with a polishing compound, or a very fine scotch brite. Then protect it, as unanodized alum will corrode.

I have one of those mother power balls and they do real well in a battery drill with a little aluminum "polish" on top...

yur gonna think that im nuts...but use VINEGAR....i have used it on everything from aluminum wheels to boxes to diamond plate...a friend of mine even used it to clean and polish his enclosed trailer...try it i think you will be surprised

I've seen "diamond plate tool box cleaner" at Northern, I'd imagine it would work OK.. :D
