Lots of good, older threads on coilovers vs air shocks etc.. Kinda not interested in air shocks anymore..

Some DD use (10%), road trips (10%), some ECORs type stuff (10%) Trail use (I mean web wheeling) 70%
36" tires, ~4000# rig.

I'm thinking hard on some coilovers and was just curious as to how everyone feels about what they have now, where your headed with suspension stuff etc..

Happy with what ya are running ?
Remote reservoir?
Would you have used a different brand?
Different setup?
Longer? Shorter?
2" vs x?
ORIs ?

Lets hear some updates....

Ballistic has some air shock/coilover hybrids available.

Also, I think King and Fox have remote reservoir air shocks which help out a lot on the fading from what I understand.

Neither is to the capacity of a coilover but they are middle ground if a coilover can't fit or is too much $$$

I've been reading on the hybrids but i really don't know much about them. Space isn't a huge issue, my alternative is a 5" TJ coil :) Price is naturally a factor, but I realize coilovers won't be wasted money either.. Just asking to see what people are seeing and like.. Thanks!

I like my ori's for supporting the weight of an unfinished rig with no charge in them. They work awesome!

My web wheeling 0.02 cents worth

I went with them for the built in stop, and supposedly no need of a swaybar. Other than that I have no input.

Fox had the hybrid shocks first, Ballistic just pushes them harder. Hybrid shocks are a joke to me though. If you spend the money on springs just buy a coilover and be done.
Emulsions are great offroad and the RR or piggybacks are better for high speed or road driving.

ORI's!

OK, I'll explain. I've been running Racerunner coilovers since I did the rockwells in 2007. re-valved them twice, and have gone through many different springs to get the spring rate right... and now, I'm at the point where I needed sway bars and air bumps.

So I sold the coilovers and ordered the ORI's from RIDES... By the time you buy a set of coilovers, springs, dual (or triple) rate kit and bump stops (regular ones), you're not far from the price of the ORI's. Add in a sway bar and air bumps, and you're over that.

They're not for KOH, but for the rest of us, they'll probably work great, though I don't have mine yet, but some people whose opinion I'll trust have reported very highly on them.

I have run air shocks for 2 years and love them. I've run them hard and had no problems. The problems I see is when people put them on all 4 corners with stock oil and get excessive body roll. I've been told if you add more oil you can counter that. In my setup I have stock cherokee coils in the front and 18" shocks in the rear. I love it and wouldn't consider anything else. The coils have equal resistance tring to compress as they do stretch. This keeps me level and stabil in the front while the air shocks provide nice smooth flexy ride in the rear.

Happy with what ya are running ? - yes
Remote reservoir? - no
Would you have used a different brand? - no
Different setup? - no
Longer? Shorter? Always go long as possible unless you are trying to hide them under the body
2" vs x? 2" is what I used on my rear
ORIs ? - don't know about them

I am running dual rate coilovers for the past 2 years. I bought them from FOA witch is no fancy name you pay for but have very good quality. Also the help they give you on selecting the correct setup and getting them together and charged is great. I have loved every minute on the trail since running them on my rig. If I could change on thing I would have changed droop %. Right now I am 50% I wish I would have gone 70%. I did go with the non reservoir, they don't seem to have any heat in them and I drive it a lot on the road.
