What RPMs do yall feel comfortable cruising at in your trucks? My truck is geared so low that OD (5th gear) takes me from 45- about 75; at 75 im doing about 25 to 2600 rpms and I dont really feel comfortable keeping the engine revved that high for long periods of time (i.e. on trips to the beach, etc.) It always does fine, it never over heats or anything I just am always a little worried about it. Am I worrying myself over nothing?

Also, you PSD guys with DP chips (particularly the ones with the 80hp econo setting): I have yet to install my pyrometer (i know, i know) but will the EGTs stay normal if you leave the chip on this setting on trips?

Thanks!

I run around on the econo setting most of the time and while pulling lighter loads. the EGTs are manageable but you can make them climb over 1200 under the right conditions. Install your pyro, any info gathered from this question will probably differ from your actual results based on different trucks equipped differently.
I also run about that rpm range and do not worry about it all. F250, 7.3 psd, 35s and 4.30s

I'm running 4.88's and an auto and getting @ 2800 rpm's at 60mph.....a little higher than i would like for the highway, but great when off-highway. I have driven it back n forth from wnc to north Florida many times, but always have to find an alternate route, since i can't get it up to "true highway" speeds (70-80mph)...lol! 55 baby! lol

i run my psd just under redline frequently and for long periods of time. it's got 4.10's, so top speed is only about 95. i cruise on the highway at 80-85. my dad drove it the same way when it was his truck.

i've got a banks chip, upgraded turbo, exhaust, etc. and have never seen egt's over 900 no matter what i do. my probe is post turbo though, so that's probably 1200 where the probe "should" be. i just sold the banks chip and bought an sct tuner but have yet to load any tunes until i get the probe relocated since i know it's going to be alot more agressive than the banks chip.

I run bout 2400 @ 70 in the Z71 in overdrive, if im towing i cant use overdrive thou so then i run like right around 3500ish in third gear at bout 65 and get to watch my gas gauge laugh at my exsistance :(

i calculated it and i seriously got 5 mpg the last time i towed from raleigh to mooresville . . . . (if there was a crying smiley face it'd be here)

thats a pretty good spot to be in in a diesel not very fuel effiecient but in the power band and great for towing it won't hurt it, get your pyro installed, but in the power band like that it will combust all of the fuel and your turbo will be spooled and keep your EGT's down, as opposed to lugging it with a heavy load not combusting all the fuel and not being able to build boost causing higher EGT's

YO
There is a big difference in gas and diesel for RPM, Thats why he was talking PSD and EGT Thats tow rig stuff for the Diesels not 1/2 Z71 stuff that will got to what 5000 rpm or better.....

Hey Ricky, this is the TOW RIG section, not the MALL CRAWLER DD section :flipoff2:

But he was referring to his diesel's RPM.

I have an AFE intake, MBRP exhaust and SCT on my 06 PSD and run about 2200 at 80mph. I can peg the speedo at 100 and still climbing and never get over 2600rpm. The 6.0 engines do not mind the higher RPMs. I would not worry about 2500-2600 but make sure to install the EGT gauge soon. It is really easy on these to put them on the driver side manifold.
