im running a stock internal 4.0 and i have accel coil and dist. cap with wires and what not, i have a 62mm tb and rusty spacer, cold air intake, i am looking a wild cam to use mud racing but im not sure what i would need. i am running 4.88's with 34 ltb's and im lookin a little more go on a budget

heres summit's link to some cam kits

That and a stroker kit would get you the ass you're looking for... Otherwise, the 4.0 isn't the engine you're looking for for that application.

thats the route i was going to try for but i aint going to be able to come up with 2500$ right now for a budget mud toy, but thanks for the thought

also fyi alot of the cams out there for the 4.0 are for carbs only not fuel injection, i just bought the lunati 63500 jeep 4.0 cam (only lunati cam that will work for FI and there is only one comp cam that will work for FI too). Havent got the motor back together but ill post again when i see how it runs, another thing to watch out for is the amount of lift. i am now searching for springs that i can use with my cam since the stock ones will not work. My route right now is doing a chevy spring swap but im not sure. i also bought headers and new 24# injectors for it.

P.S. almost all of the wild or rough idle cams will not work for fuel injection unless you "flash" the computer, thats what the guys said when i called lunati and comp.

thanks for the info, i havnt gotten into the motor yet im goin to run it with just bolt ons until the next race season but let me know what all you find out when you get it together so i can get the spec's. :smokin:

so i finally finished up putting the motor back together and running. I ended up using the stock springs and they work fine. I dont know why they said you cant but i did some more research and tested it and they work. After all the mods i did i feel like i got alot more power especially in the low end which is what i was looking for.

also i may possibly dyno it to see how much power i actually gain the cam, headers and such just because im curious but i dont know yet.

also fyi another thing to watch out for is do NOT buy the comp cam full kit (cam, lifter, springs, retainers...), it will not work with the newer I6s only the older ones 4.2 and older i think, i called i while back because i was going to order that and the only thing that would work are the cam and lifters. the reason being is the springs diameter is bigger and the valves are different. Also the guy that i talked to on the phone was kinda a douche but helpful. he said the "idiots" that made the comp cams sight are stupid and never touched a car in there life and that half the stuff on there sight is wrong.

in the end just make sure to do your research before buyin anything

so how did that lunati cam work, im about to do my own rebuid and im thinking of getting that cam since its descritpion says smooth idle, strong low to mid torque and horsepower gains.

on my yj 4.0 w/ 202k miles i have 45k volt coil, 99+ intake, and 2.5"full exhaust w/dynomax muffler and she still has plenty of ponies w/ 33" mud tires on her. i get about 20mpg highway too. my next step is stroking to 4.7. if you make your own formula you can spend about a grand i parts and i know a shop that will do all block/head work(all out build) for 500.
