Comp compound tires on the street

Would you run on the street or pull on the trailer

I searched on pirate but didn't really find the answer. I'm going to Harlan this weekend and it looks like we're staying at Evarts. IIRC, it's about a 10 minute drive from the campground to the first dirt road if you go about 40 mph.

So those of you that run or have ran comp compound tires, would you pull it on the trailer for 10 minutes or drive it on the street. I'm tempted to pull it on the trailer because I don't have a regular supply of these tires (which I love) and because I'll have my tow rig and extra parts closer to me if I break.

I drove mine all over Greensboro on krawlers, also from Crawfords to the trails at Tellico. I'll be driving on a new set of Creepys (I hope) at Harlan. A few miles on the pavement isn't going to kill them, guess it just depends on how anal you are.

My welded rear 14 bolt liked to eat at the red Krawlers on the street...if you have a real (gives a little) locker or selectable I wouldn't hesitate...I still drove mine with the welded diff but felt that I could tell the difference between front and rear after a while...

...drive it...

I'd load it. I drove my Iroks to the trails at Dixie Run and I can definitely tell a difference. If you paid that much for them I'd try and keep them in the best shape I could. If you don't care then I'd drive it. I've never been so I don't have a full grasp of the situation. If it's mainly straight roads I might just drive it.

Another point is once you get there just don't unload. keep it on there and then just get up and leave to go to the trails. Load it up at the end of the day. That way if you're too hungover to wheel on Sunday it's already ready to leave.

I always trailered from Verde to the trailhead. But not so much for my tires but that my buggy scared the shit out of me at speeds over 6mph.

You knew this was coming...

Drive it, because you shouldn't be towing with that Tacoma any further than absolutely necessary... :flipoff2:

Honestly, drive it. You'll lose more tread doing the first burnout, er, tire-heating than you will from that short trip on-road..

Here's a vote for the trailer. This year at Dixie Run I trailered from the campground to the trailhead after years of never doing so. Several reasons as you iterated. Tire wear, parts closer, dust on the trails, a little squirrley at speed. In retrospect it was a good call. I enjoyed the ride to and from the trails more, felt better about tire wear and was able to get in a dust free environment ASAP :) Still debating on going to Fall Crawl but have been playing out the same senario and think I would trailer, at least to the far RR track crossing.
