I am looking for ideas for a compact muffler for my trail rig. I plan to have the exhaust dump out just past the skid for the tranny/t-case. Being that I have an inline six I don't really need a loud muffler and in fact less rumble will be easier on me wheeling all day.

Any ideas on what to use?

I used a flowmaster hushpower muffler, and the sound was good and the muffler was small.

I used a flowmaster 20 series one chamber on my sammi, the noise is awful, but it is compact!! I actually crimped the tail section to quieten it down, do not go that route!!
I used a 40 series on my tracker with a resonator in front of it and it is not bad at all, but the 40 is about 14" long, but on a six i may would opt for a turbo style muffler to keep the drone out:)

I did just what your talking about on my Toyota,I went to local muffler shop and ask if I could look at the stock room because this was not going to be a stock replacement and they helped me find one that worked perfect! It was a turbo 14" long and thin ,tucked up tight above frame rail! Good Luck with your project! (Also cost less than $30.00 )

I used a Moroso spiral core muffler when I did my long arms. It was very reasonable on the sound level. I did however still have the cat. converter hooked up.
No problems at all having a conversation while driving around or on the highway. It was much quieter than I expected.

Currently my exhaust dumps just before the rear axle and its not bad. Its only about 18" less if I ditch the cat. If the fumes are an issue I will run it back further.

Custom Exhaust and Brake on Patton Ave has cheapo bullet style glasspacks. They are pretty short and small diameter. I have ran them on many 4.0 Jeep engine sin the past. Quiet and easy to package.
Ask for Jim. Tell him I sent ya

Mike lemme know if I need to set you up with my muffler guy.
I have learned that he can do what I want for less than I would pay for parts and his work is great.

I may need to do that.

This weekend I cut off the Dynapro muffler and am just running the cat as of now. My skid plate is made and if I go with a full size muffler I may not be able to pull the tranny with it in. That may be where the MagnaPack of a glass pack comes into play.
