2700 sq ft, needs original gravel excavated out (maybe 8-10" in one area), parking pad to the side of the garage, new walkway, busting up the 24" apron in front of the garage, sweep out to the mailbox so the post office stops tearing up my road edge, trenching for a drain line that I will put in for gutter runoff to the street, etc.

Was given $6.50 sq ft in Wake County, so about $17.5k Not sure in my mind seems high. Picture-framed, brushed finish, fiber reinforced, 4" average with thicker edges (how much not specified), etc. 3 days' work.

Thoughts?

Sounds steep, but it's wake county and they know you will pay it. You're a homeowner and will be a one time customer, he's going to get his licks in.
 
I'm in need of about 1600 sq.ft. poured and about 1400 sq.ft. ripped out. I've gotten three quotes so far 9k,10.5k, and 14.5k The guy at 14.5 said with out the rip out, it would be 7600 to form, pour and finish that much area. So that would be 4.75 a foot with out the rip out.
 
Sounds fairly high--at least for here -- but not out of the ballpark by any means. You have a lot more going on than just a form pour and broom finish driveway. Most concrete guys are charging high dollar for any tear out for some reason now and you're adding even more they are probably going to sub out to the quote.
What language did they speak?
 
Thanks for the opinions. I will try to get at least one or two more quotes before pulling the trigger but I wanted to see if I was simply being "tested". I think it could be a bit less (and of course would like it to be) but then I understand how much work will go into it. I just have zero capability to get it done myself.
 
I've got a few quotes for the concrete slab for my shop. It's 3200 sq/ft (40x80 pole barn). I've already put down and compacted the rock base so all they have to do is form it, put down the vapor barrier, pour and finish it.

My quotes have ranged from $17k for 4" thick 3,000psi, $19k for 4" 3,000psi, $20k for 4" 4,000psi and $22k for 6" thick 4,000psi with wire mesh.

Thank you for the data point. I think it is relatively similar when considering the extra material on yours versus the extra labor/haul out on mine.
 
i just got quoted 12k for 250sf slab 18ft 6 block high retaining wall. i mean it is all under a deck and mostly gotta be hand work but concrete aint cheap as it use to be.
 
Well I just got my second data point and it landed at $9/sqft for the same work scope. That outfit would clean up all the edges and backfill with soil for an extra $0.50/sqft. Calculating out to nearly $10k more they are clearly not the value leader...
 
I ended up going with the first contractor that came out. A few others looked at it or reviewed my RFQ but I never received any more actual quotes. Even had one refuse to quote saying that his gigantic Takeuchi tracked skid steer would not be able to scrape off the gravel (I ran into that joker in the neighborhood behind mine). The one that did the work showed up with a mid sized wheeled unit that did the job just fine. Prepped day one, poured day two, stripped forms morning day three. Ended up measuring it at ~3180 sqft. I have a bunch of backfilling to do around the edges and to finish the trench and drain pipe it to the road but it will be nice to finally work on a concrete drive than gravel and not track crap into the house all winter.

I finally get to park on it tomorrow! Was waiting for it to cure, kept blowing it off and wetting it down.

Concrete day is always the best. It is always such a transformation in just one day. Way better than having to watch the other trades drag their work out for weeks or months šŸ˜…
