Maybe a stupid question...

Can you stain concrete that's already been laid down? the PO of my house painted the concrete around the pool....it's going to eventually look like crap...trying to come up with a plan....

Yes, but the cost depends on how much effort is out in and how good you want it to look. We had our basement floor done after we moved into the house, and they came in and reground the whole surface, stained, and then sealed it. Turned out great, but was not cheap.

Depends on what they painted it with. I hope it was a pigmented sealer and not just exterior paint.
I sell many different products for that. One is a Stain Sealer, by Increte. Acrylic based pigmented sealer. It is like paint but will deep into the surface a bit and last much longer.

The other option is acid stain. More of a transparent stain, as it will react with the lime & salt in the concrete and the darkness of the colors varies cause of that. You wind up with an awesome, inconsistent marbled look and once you add a sealer to it it makes it “pop” like the clear on a car, or clear on a wood stain.

If I had a pool, I’d probably put Increte Spray Deck around it. Many colors, hides imperfections, non slip, and cool to the feet in the summer. Contrary to the name, it can be rolled or troweled in addition to spraying.

Give those products a google and read over the data sheets.

If you want to talk more about any of that, feel free to reach out to me.

Like said, if it's sealed, you got more work to do. When I moved in, my basement was clean concrete, & un-sealed. Water would seep into it. When it's sealed, the water just pools & sits. I Still washed it down, brushed & washed again with Muratic acid, & washed & rinsed Again. Per instructions of my Stain seller. Then I rolled on 2 coats of sealer stain. [clay brick color] As with any painting, Prep was the hard part! It has held up well, even where I do most of my fabrication work. Mine didn't penetrate as deep as I thought. I have scratched through with creepers, & dragging metal objects! But otherwise, it's still sealed. Should work good around the pool!
[Here's a sample of my floor: not the truest color]

Borrow a 4-5000 psi pressure washer. Blast all that off, then wash & treat with desired top coat. If the stuff is loose, the pressure washer will remove it.

I was thinking this was going to be the one, "which gives the better color, atf or gear oil?", no intention to derail, interested in what people have used.

What ever they used, it seems to be holding up ok so far. House was bank owned before we purchased it almost 4 years go. Thanks for the feedback- I'll do some research....

I'm betting it's sealed.....
