So, today I got started running conduit out to the carport.
It is a straight shot out from the house, 75' total underground. Going to run a 1.5 or 2" for the generator power to the auto switch (2-2-2-4), a 3/4 for 120v for carport lights, and another, either 1/2 or 3/4 for control/start wires for the generator.
Since the crawl space is sealed (plastic up to just shy of the sill) and insulated (foam board on the walls), I am just going to run the conduit up the side of the house a couple of feet, and go thru the band joist with an LB. It will be hidden behind shrubbery in this area, so appearance doesn't matter too much.
The problem is, the footing at this point is about 6" below the finished grade, and sticks out about 6" from the brick wall. The problem is, how to I handle this with the conduit, and not have too many bends? After I get it turned and running down the trench, there are no more bends until I get to the carport area, where I will turn up vertical with a 90* sweep.
I'm thinking I'll have to offset it....using a 45 just above grade, a 45 once I am clear of the footing, then a 90* sweep at the bottom of the trench. This would give me a total of 270* of bends for the whole run.
Or should I just do a 45 just above grade, then another at the bottom of the trench (although then, the conduit wouldn't hit 18" deep until a couple of feet out from the house). This is a total of 180* of bends for the whole run.
Alternative is to break out the hammer drill, and eat away at the footing. I don't think the inspector would like that, would he?
