Ok, so I just put a 4" lift on my TJ and am running 35's on it. I've been told that I need a SYE kit and new driveshaft. The place that put my lift on said that I didn't need either, and my friend said all I need is the SYE. What do I need to do? I'm so freakin' confused.....

If I'm not mistaken, if you get an SYE, you have to get a new driveshaft, because they mount differently. One has a slip end, the other has the slip yoke eliminated and has the slip built into the shaft with a u joint end.
As for whether you need either, do you have any vibrations when driving?

heres the deal the above 3 inch lift for a wrangler is where you will usually need the sye and drive shaft. some companys get around this by lowering the t-case or bellypan more than 1 inch(about 1.5 inches especially on automatics) to reduce driveline angle. the sye also reduced driveline angles by lenthening the distance from the rear output to the pinion and adding a cv shaft.

the sye will help you greatly if you are going to wheel it b/c its stronger than the stock setup and easily repairable on the trail (if the shaft slips off the t-cas output and rolls the splines no fix)..if you just snap au joint no problem

hope this helps

like he said if its driving fine then its ok
but you can gain some ground clearance and strength with the sye b/c you can raise the belly back up

Xjay, I think that's what they did, cause when I got my jeep back I noticed these spacers between my skid and my frame. I guess I'm gonna get the SYE and driveshaft. I'm gonna wheel it, so I think that's the best route to take. Thanks for the info.

As xjay said, the sye replaces your tcase's output shaft (which is a slip yoke stock) with a flange. Meaning you also have to replace your dshaft...with a (longer) dual cardan (cv) shaft. 4" is about the max height you can go in a tj without always getting vibrations from the rear dshaft.

IMO the proof is in the driving. If it drives fine without vibrations I would leave it for now. If/when you began to wheel it I would check to make sure there is ample slip in the driveshaft/tcase to handle your flex. A SYE would fix that if it's a problem as well as allow you to take the spacers out of the skid. All that said, if it works for you right now as is, I'd save my money.

u can always do a small t case drop ... i just did a ghetto fab used parts 4" on my tj with no vibations and no t case drop
