I am getting ready to do an engine swap this weekend on my neighbors 84 CJ7. It currently has the 4.2 I6 and we are going to a 304 v8. The jeep has a t176 4-speed in it too.

My question has to do with the motor mounts. I was told this was a bolt in swap for the CJ7. It looks like I am going to need a set of block brackets for the engine mounts????????? Are the frame mount the same or am i gonna have to fab up new ones??

Does anybody have the block brakets and a set of manifolds or headers??

I cannot help you on the motor mount question. I had to change the ones in my YJ and my buddy had to change the ones in his CJ that had a 4 banger. I am thinking you will have to change them though because of the difference in the centerline of the motor.
As for the exhaust, I have a set of Headman headers (inside frame, not fenderwell) with the ball type collector were only on the Jeep about 6months - $70

The frame mount on the passenger side is different on the v8. The driver's side is the same between the I6 and the v8

where can i get one?? Is the block side also the same?

I bought mine off of a guy on another forum. I have *heard* that you can adapt the I6 mount to work, but I have not tried it. I'll check around and see if I can find one

The block side mounts are completely different between the 2 motors, but the actual rubber mount is interchangeable.

HEY HEY
I am converting a CJ from a 304 to an I6.

Seems like we could help each other....

PM me I also have the headers off the 304 Id let go (real) cheap

also I have both blovk bracckets mounted to the junk block I pulled

The block brackets must be from a CJ.
An AMC car or FSJ will not line up properly. The passenger side 6cyl frame mount can be made to work, but the V8 mount is best.
I usually find mine on ebay as I do not keep them long when I part out a CJ.
