Those things are all over the base where I work - but I have no clue what it's called.
Actually, it's the replacement for the deuce and a half. 5 ton models have 2 rear axles. And while FMTV isn't in-correct, it's a LMTV, stands for light medium tactical vehicle, the F is for family of medium tactical vehicle, and a 5 ton model would be just an MTV, or medium tactical vehicle.
Trucks are made by Stewart Stevenson, that model is most likely a M1078

That is one of the biggest POS trucks that the Army has and is a complete electrical nightmare.
rarely had one let me down, they are only as good as the person driving it, and the guys in the motorpool maintaining it.
As for electronics, yeah it's alot more complicated than an old deuce, but is stupid simple compared to many modern cars.
