99 xj here in the last week when i get out of the thing after driving home from work (10 miles +/-) cooling fan stays running, like for awhile. coolant is a lil dirty or could be redish tint to it, overflow bottle has some coolant in it to the bottom line on bottle, radiator cap feels little cold for it being driven that far, also fan temp switch wasnt plugged in all the way...it is now and fan temp switch is NEW, and every once in awhile while driving i get a whiff of coolant. i know at one time it had a leaky top hose and that could still be some of the dried coolant burning off. When i come out in the morning the fan is off and battery is good so i havent timed it to see how long it runs i just know it doesnt stop within 5-10 minutes of engine shut down. What seems to be the issue here?

my 98 xj did that with the electric fan too when it was really hot outside.kinda freaked me out at first buti just check on it while im at work

ok i was just making sure something wasnt up. yesterday it was only 69 outside and it ran for 10 minutes when i got home, today its 80 and when i got home it didnt run at all, just weird jeep stuff i guess

If you figure out what is going on with the XJ fan let everyone know. Mine kicks on about every 11 seconds after it gets up to running temp...Normally would run until temp drops back down below certain temp say 200 but this does not seem to be the case. I just bought a new temp sensor and going to try that this weekend to see if it makes any difference. From what I have read and talked to others, this seems to be one of the weak links of XJ's is their electrical systems. Everything else seems rock solid.
