Cordless impact driver recommendations

One of the biggest reasons I like "red" tools, you can get parts for almost everything ever made. Rebuilt a 30yr old portaband a few yrs back. They had a number of small connectors, switches, and bearings for it. Most of it was in stock at the dealer too.

I have a Milwaukee M18 impact wrench, not an impact driver, but that thing is a damn beast. Ask @Buddy_Holly how much we used that sucker in the old shop. That thing was a damn workhorse.

Yep it was a ripper.

I also have Milwaukee stuff for myself now. The 1/4 impact driver is awesome and I also bought a mid-torque 3/8 impact that is literally the best tool I have. It will bust loose lugnuts and compress crush sleeves on axles but it’s smaller than their big 1/2 impacts.

I was just looking at those earlier this week. Good recommendation.. I'm torn between the mid torque and the compact unit, because the compact would probably get more use in the 3/8 flavor even though it's less torque.

My compact 1/2" drive will take the lug nuts off my truck. They are torqued to 165ftlbs, but the torque wrench is not calibrated :p

The mid torque is a big bump up in torque over the compact unit. 650ish vs 250ish foot pounds. My 1/4 driver does most small, tight jobs and lighter torque fasteners and the mid torque gets used for everything else. That said, I’ll be buying the m12 3/8 compact impact one day just because.

I have an 18v set I've put through hell and back for what they are. Last year for my birthday my family got me a 20v set because the 18v batteries were starting to show their age. For general homeowner style use I'd highly recommend them. I did recently get a Milwaukee M18 FUEL set though so I'm sure my Porter Cable's days are numbered.....

I've got the lithium stuff. Batteries hold charge very well, and I use them at work. The impact driver is great for intakes, turbo piping, pulling front ends apart.

I wish P/C made a 1/2 inch impact, for this reason alone I'm probably switching to a red brand once I get my tool bills paid back down.

They make a 20v one. 150 with the battery or 110 without on Amazon.

20V MAX* 1/2 in. Cordless Impact Wrench - PCC740LA | PORTER CABLE

Problem is, can't find them brick and mortar. I like knowing I have a place to take it back to if I have a problem, not hoping it makes it back in the screwed up mail system.

At the time I was looking for maximum torque for the buck, since I'm no longer in the shop, and no longer own a diesel, max torque isn't really an issue.

Well a year and half ago when I posted I was occasionally seeing them in Lowes (without the battery), but I can't help you now .
