Dont think I would be posting an asking people to wheel a Couch Mtn. I have rode there all my life. For the people that dont know it is not legal to wheel there. I know everyone that owns land there an those that hold keys to be able to ride there.
My point is, this is what got it shut down last time. I would be very carefull about riding there, when the wrong person finds out there are people inviting other people to the Mtn. It will be shut down again. I know several of the people in the pics an am sure they had permission. But bringing a crowd wont last long. Just a heads up.

Post #6 said they had permission and a key

i thought the kid (teenager)that died up there from drinking, while on meds is what got it shut down before. atleast that was what i was told. either way its nice to see it getting some use again.

when you get to the first split in the road(coming in from hoopers creek) is it still shut down to the left or did that get opened back up?

Yoderboy you're thinking about Major Mt.

That got it shut down the first time. It kind of went away an then the above post got it shut down later on. Yes the gate at the bottom of the MTN. From the Hoopers Creek side is locked. That is where most people that has a key goes in. There is 5 different ways to get on the Mtn. An all of them have been shut down, unless you have a key or somebodys key.

yea i know its locked....but if you do happen to have a key, is the whole area accessable like 12-15yrs ago. or is parts of it still closed?

i miss major mt too.

And did anyone here go and play on the rocks, rough cut roads, when the DOT was building I-26 through madison county?

i wished i had permission, we own property on kyles creek road which is only around 1 mile from there. It would be a cool place to go play.

I had heard that Major was closed because a well known motorcycle and atv dealer in Asheville was selling atv's and dirtbikes to folks and giving them directions to Major. The owners of the majority of the land came to town from Florida and went to the dealer acted like they were going to buy and atv and where to ride. You can imagine how pissed they were when they told them to go ride Major. At least that is what I heard... I miss that place. I used to ride to Old Fort on a dual sport and ride from one end to the other as fast as possible and them ride back home on Hwy 9. There was a lot of good stuff out there old homes, cars, trucks, a bus, and even the old plane crash.

No the whole area isnt still open. The what we call Walt Shepard side is closed. I know the guy that inherited it (GO FIGURE) from his aunt close to 200 acres want let his momma use it. He is a real prick. I know him well an have asked him. His reply is if Ilet you then every body else will ask. I said so what it aint like its going to hurt any thing. If some of you want to go, I can get permission an a key to go, but it would have to be a small crowd. There isnt much ruff stuff there at all, Something open open would be the best. It wouldnt be any fun with something completly locked.

Did that yellow Comanche used to belong to Gene Hicks?

Yes that is the Hicks old jeep. i took it in on trade a while back. Will be for sale in next few days as i just have too many rigs at the moment for my own good. Went through it and replaced all seals and rod ends joints exc. did a little work to it, runs great sharp rig i like it but gotta go.
