Couple of 98 XJ D30 questions

1st one..Is there a way to tell what gears this axle has as the tag is gone. the gears are stamped as follow
6 07 98 dana D 42701 P8L221 39 11

2nd.. What is the trick to removing the hub bolt on the inside to the knuckle. They are a star type, what size? And yes I stipped one of them. Surely this is not the first time this has happened. Any help would be appreciated.

i'm not sure on the gears, but the bolts on the inside should be 12 point 13mm/ 1/2 inch bolts.

there is a way to read those numbers but i don't know what it is. try looking on the rear axle and see if you can find a ratio sticker or plate. if it is all stock they will be the same. i belive most like mine came with 3.55 gears with the 4.0 and auto.

I figured out the Gear ratio, the 39 is the ring gear ans the 11 in the pinion. 39/11 = 3.55.

Now for the hub bolts, anyone have any secrets for getting them off??

12pt 13mm. That's about it, they must be seized up so just be careful and try not to stip them all out...

12pt 13mm was the ticket . Ended up cutting the striped one off with a 3" cutting wheel. Thanks!!
