I have a 18 volt drill someone gave to me, and the 2 batterys are either no good or the charger is not charging them. Can I take it back to Sears and exchange it? I heard if it says craftsman you can exchange it, any truth. Thanx.

batteries are expendable and the charger is considered electronics. Only hand tools are covered like that.

Take the battery to Home Depot, many of the Craftsman cordless tools are Ryobi made, and parts will interchange. You can buy a new pair of 18v batteries for the Ryobi for about $40.

Also check some of the other brands ( porter Cable made the 19.2v tools) see if they might cross over.

Sears makes NOTHING but they license from many for most everything ( the top Kenmore stuff is largely a test market for future name brands like GE and WHirlpool and the like, to see how a feature will be accepted in the market)

there used to be a guy named "battery guru" on ebay.

I bought 18V dewalt batteries from him a year or so back for $19.
They seemed to have more pop then the factory ones, and lasted similar times. They felt lighter and looked a bit cheaper (the plastic casting was "rough") but worked well. May be an option.

FYI sears also does not do replacement warranty for rust, even if it's really severe.
My bro once took in a screwdriver that looked aweful, I still don't know how he got it that rusty.
Guy said, nope, sorry, technically it's still intact and not broken.

So Bro goes over and picks up a bolt cutter, cuts the head off the screwdriver.
Hands it to the rep, he smiles and hands him a new one...

My Unlce found an Adjustablewrench in the yard, rusted to hell, scrapped off enough crap to find CRAFTSMAN stamped in it. for shits and giggles,he took it the Sears and they gave him a new one.... that was back before Kmart owned them.

I've had 2 or 3 Craftsman drills. All gifts I'll never buy one for myself. Battery life sucks in my opinion. the last one that gave out on me, I found that a new drill with 2 batteries was like $20 more than the replacement battery. Oh and something like 3 volts more for the new drill too.

I tried to get a wrench replaced because the open end was stretched. the guy did not believe me. I went home and bent the handle in my vise with a torch. when I took it back, the guy asked what happened and I said I left it on the dash of my truck and that was what happened. The dumb a$$ said try not to do that anymore.
