Its been a couple years since I've sold anything on craigslist, and I now have an ad up. I always remember getting replies from other people with real addresses, and it was fairly easy to spot the spam. This latest ad, I have 4 replies from 3 people, all with emails like this...lotsofrandomcharacters@reply.craigslist.org but some text for a name.
Is this new? I'm leary to reply. Here's the replies...

Hey Tony...I know Ronnie Townsend (if its the same one) we grew up together. He's a good guy. Maybe living in Advance or Mocksville now?

I could help you screw with his head if you really wanted to..mwaahaaahaa!

He grew up on Jack Booe rd. In a log cabin. Brothers Adam,Kenny,Joeseph, and a sister named Becca. Oh man, we could really screw with him. I know alot!

Yeah, they changed the email format sometime in the past year. Which really frustrates me, because it was very easy to screen people since facebook would go straight to people's profiles via email address, and if that didn't work, I could at least determine their sketchiness from a google search. Now its a total gamble.

Easiest way I found to prevent spammers on CL was to click "hide my email" when writing the ad, make a picture that showed my email address, and then uploaded it as one of the images on my ad.

Made it so they had to actually type out my address to contact me. If they're too lazy to write it out once, then they're probably to lazy to make a deal happen.
