I got busy w/ something this afternoon.
Is there a recap of the Crandon race somewhere?

Latest I've seen Scherer and Carter both blew motors in prerunning, butt hat was yesterday.

Reading on pirate, someone gave Will there spare. That was friday night.

here is his facebook post

Will Carter Racing's Crandon short course weekend? In a word: Craptastic.

Here's my lame story.

Friday practice: Blown engine. And when I say blown...I mean it. The guy who put out the fire in the track safety truck said it was one of the biggest fireballs he's seen in years. I felt the explosion on my back. And saw an orange glow in the mirrors. Josh (spotting on the radio) calmly says
"Dude, you're on fire" and I head for the grass.

Luckily in a mid-engine car you really can drive away from the fire. I pulled off in a safe location and was out of the car while park gear was still grinding.

As we ready the trailer to pack up for the weekend Eric Miller offers up his spare engine. With great appreciation we get it swapped in and fired up at 3 am.

While finishing up in the morning I start to do a little tuning on the new motor and feel the horrible vibration again. It's the torque convertor.

I make a few phone calls and find a guy at Eagle River Transmission in Eagle River, WI who just happens to be working late and answers the phone. He has a stock 4L80 torque convertor that he sold me for 50 bucks. A 2 hour round trip later I'm back at the track and we're swapping out a torque convertor. Unfortunately we missed the Saturday race. Oh well. It runs great now and with a little more tuning it had more power than my original engine.

Sitting at the starting line I felt the main brake pedal go soft. I figured I had just got a little air in the master cylinder from all the jumping so I gave her the ol' double pump and matted it off the start. 3 or 4 turns later when tailing Kevin Yoder into a turn the brake pedal hits the floor and I hit Kevin. Luckily we both come out OK.

I could still keep up a decent pace because I still had rear cutting brakes to stop me but I definitely wasn't racing hard.

A few laps later I was scrubbing some speed off with the left cut brake when it too went to the floor. With my new found corner speed I had no choice but to turn and hope for the best. The best the turn could offer me was a fast roll and a couple of cartwheels onto the outer berm of the track. Luckily I landed on the wheels and got back in it.

Turns out that fiery explosion had weekend the internal Teflon hose of my left rear brake lines. I didn't even think about that in our haste to get it going again.

At that point I just made sure I made the most of my Crandon race track time and stayed out of everyone's way.

It was still a blast and I'll be back whenever they'll have the us Ultra 4's again.
