A couple of weeks ago I drove out to Busco for a night race on the new supercross track that NCMP built. They stagger started B and C class, I was racing B. On the third lap I started coming up some lappers in the C class. I was doubling through a rhythm section through doubles about 20' long. The first lapper was in the center of the track singling through them. I was comitted to doubling them and couldnt slow down without crashing. I tried to work my way to the outside of the track while still maintaining speed but I lost focus and came up about a foot short on a double. My front tires clipped the top of the landing and I flipped frontwards landing on my shoulder, luckily the quad missed me. Luckily some nice people drove me to the ER where I was given percocet and told to see an ortgopedic surgeon ASAP. Back in Greensboro I saw the orthopedic surgeon who said I had a broken colar bone and 5th degree tear in my AC joint (the worst he has ever seen). I just had surgery and got some cool titanium plates, kevlar wire and a cadaver ligament grafted in. Im not looking forward to the 6 month recovery time....
The quad was mangled. I havent looked at it close yet but just from glancing at it I know it needs a frame. Ill look closer when I can get some minor use out of my arm in a few weeks.
Wear your gear. I wasnt wearing a chest protector or shoulder pads (not that would have helped, but who knows).
For anyone interested, the SX track is SUPER tight and technical. It was 2nd gear the whole time on my banshee and there were LOTS of jumps and sharp turns.
