In a few weeks my jeep will be going from 48:1 to 102:1. I will have an intermediate transition at 73:1.
Current setup: NV3550, D300, 4.56 (48:1)
Intermediate: NV3550, D300 w/4:1, 4.56 (73:1)
Final setup: NV4500, D300 w/4:1, 4.56 (102:1)
I hope to wheel it some with the 4:1 before I install the NV4500 so I can see what thats like. However, It is difficult to be geared too low, as you have 4, 5, or even 6 gears in your tranny to compensate for undergearing, plus high range.
So with the 102:1 combo, in 5th gear low range it is 14:1, and in 1st gear high range, it is 25:1. Since it overlaps, I don't have that dead area where low is too low and high is too high. I think that is the option that dual cases or a multi-speed case offers quite well. Having a single ridiculous low range can leave you with an unaccessable speed range.
