Every time I see that I try to figure out how it's a hoax... after seeing it..oh i dunno.. 50 times, I must assume it's real.

Most guardrail systems that are on roadways with speeds of 45mph or greater either taper into the ground or have high speed ends.

In NC the GRE type 350 ends are 25' long and break away so as not to create a metal spear. It was made a law a while back. The interesting part is that they only upgrade from the standard flared ends when it becomes damaged and it needs replacement. I would guess that the same is true with this.

I seen the exact thing happen here where I live on I-40. The guy wasn't as lucky. His head was mashed btw the guard rail and the B pillar on the vehicle and didn't survive. It was kinda gross.
