Like the title, my clutch creaks real bad after driving for a while. Once the creak starts the clutch doesn't operate smooth at all, making it quite annoying to drive. its a Powerstroke with the ZF-5. about 225K miles.

How old's the clutch? Check the rod from the master cylinder to the pedal assembly. there is a plastic bushing that creaks and breaks real easy. Its a common problem and there's a guy on e-bay who sells a fix for it that's like a little heim joint you can you bolt onto the rod after you cut off the piece the plastic bushing fits into. I can probably get a picture of mine if needed. If that plastic piece fails it cause the stroke on the clutch rod to mess up probably making shifts hard/grinding. If that's what you mean by PITA to drive.

Is it in the pedal, MC or inside the tranny?

I had it looked at and was immediately told I need a new clutch, so I'm getting a clutch and single mass flywheel put on as soon as I can afford it.

Check your clutch pedal,I bet the tab where the slave cyl linkage mounts is wore out and not letting the clutch work right.

My dad had a 96 7.3 with a 5 speed. Good call on the one piece flywheel, the others are junk. We put a clutch and flywheel in a few years back. You will probably need to replace the master and slave cylinder anyway. The old cylinders just couldn't handle the stronger clutch.

Another thing to check, the fire wall around the clutch master cylinder. It's a single layer of sheet metal and they tend to get weak and flex.
