Crozet is going private

I haven't been there but know plenty of people that have. Please exlplain how that beats the hell out of open wknds.

Sorry, but it still seems to me a little steep for someone that might spend $2-300 round trip in fuel, get up there have a major break and be out for a while doing an upgrade/rebuild.

There are a million different scenarios one could come up with.
Just my .02

:shaking: WTF...pay a membership fee and then still have to pay to wheel

someone is trying to get rich

Unless you catch it on a light weekend it is usually crowded or maybe I am unlucky when I have been up there. You only need 2 vehicles to go anytime now. Crozet is a whole lot closer than Tellico from Raleigh = less fuel $$ for me.
I try to build my rig not to break but it happens, i.e. front locker blows after wheeling about 4 hrs at Rausch Creek. That drive there and back wasn't cheap.
It would be nice if Chris would open it up for free but I guess he still has to pay insurance and keep up the trails, etc...
Based on distance, availability to now ride anytime(w/2 vehicles), difficulty of trails it will probably be worth it. At least 61 people agree thus far which means this is how it will be to ride there.

:shaking: Chris was "semi-cool" when we went back in February but damn. This is retarted IMO. $100 bucks a year + paying to wheel, thats fawkin stupid. I mean I always knew he thought his place was the shit but a membership fee etc is still dumb. I know it still says $30 a day for non members, Crozet is fun, but not that fun. I wont pay $60 a weekend for someone to tell me I cant run some obstacles because they say my rig isnt safe enough. :gay:

IMO Its just as long a drive to Harlan, which is a larger place with better obstacles and trails. I can still run at night, I can run any trail I want and not pay $60 bucks a weekend (tank of gas) to ride.

Can't wheel at night? WTF?

i think its a good thing... maybe not for everyone, but for those who live closer, why not?

my situation:
Tellico= 8hrs
Windrock= 7hrs
Harlan= 8-9hrs
R/C, PA= 8-9hrs
Crozet= 4hrs

some of the benefits:
-it gives the people who can't make the open rides a chance to wheel when they can
-it gives you the chance to be ride in smaller groups with people that you know/want to ride with
-it gives you 'atleast' two free weekends during the year ($80 value)

yeah its a $100/year but its still the cheapest "pay to play" park that i know of...

i've wheeled there at night, its possible:

Isn't Gray Rock $50 per weekend with a minimum? and If you don't have the minimum your group has to come up with $500?

Crozet is closer for me with no redicoulous driving on 40 through the mountains (sucks in a gasser), its closer to food, hotels, college womens :beer:, and I don't have to drive 20 minutes down trail 1 at 45 mph just to get to the first trail. Crozet is obstacle after obstacle after obstacle and you can take a different line every time with almost no driving on roads. It's worth it to me....I'll be paying once the buggy is done.

Oh and if you get up there to wheel Friday...Chris is pretty cool about letting you brake the rules since the crowd doesn't really show up till Saturday.

I'll have to go read it, but I beielve with the $100 you can bring a guest/guests. That was in the discussion when Chris was considering it, but I haven't been back on their board since. So say you bring 1 freind (if that's all they allow) you split the $100 and if you ride twice that $25 per weekend plus the fee. If you can bring more freinds it sweetens the deal.

If I understand it right this is the deal. Chris felt like he had to keep a close eye on everybody because the park was always filled with strangers. Now that it's a member only thing he can loosen the leash a bit. No more start times or very organized runs. No more waiting for open weekends, etc.

The $100 sounds like a lot but if you go there twice a year it's not bad. A feel like I pay about $50 a weekend between the park and campground just about everywhere I go. If it is cheaper, like Harlan, the cost of gas from near Raleigh makes up for it. Also, the price of the park seems to be a small part of the price of being in this hobby. Buying/building the trail rig, buying the tow rig, fixing the trail rig, etc. costs a lot more than the difference between a $40 and $50 weekend.

Finally, for me Chris's spotting had value too. He has so many tough obstacles and known lines that I felt like I was in driving school and that I was actually a (slightly) better driver at the end of the weekend than I was before it.

i agree with woody. i like crozet too. so many obsitacles
and different lines to take. good place to camp and you don't
have to drive on dirt roads from camp to the trails.
after chris instructs you on a line it makes you a better
driver. i'd like for my wife to take spotter lessons
from him.

I was starting to think I was the only one who did not live in the mountains who liked to wheel AND has to pay for fuel.
Cheers :beer:
