OK, now to get serious, Cummins is the problem. 2014 6.7L DRW 3500 CCLB. ~75K original miles. No modifications. Fuel filters replaced about 1 year ago with about 3K miles. Truck doesn't get driven much. Sat about 3 weeks. Went to my daughters house last Saturday (4 miles, no problem. Acted normal, good start, drove fine etc). Hot day in Mebane. Sat about 2 hrs. Then when starting, hit button and it acted like after a fuel filter change. Fast turn over but no fire. When thru its cycle (I don't lke the push button in these situations). It cranked about 5-7 secs I would guess and didnt start. I then let sit for about 15 sec and hit button again, it cranked a long time again but fired up this time. Idled fine and drove home with no issue 4 miles. Started over the past week 5-6 times, no problem, fired right up normally each time. Then today about a week after first issue, I started 'cold' (80 deg at 7AM today) and it cranked fine. Drove to airport from Efland to Danville and at about 30 miles along when i let up at a light, the truck was super sluggish when i got back in throttle. Like throttle down and nothing happened. Engine didn't really miss or anything just would NOT rev or spool up immediately. It came out of it and turbo spun up and went fine. About another 10 miles and stopped again at an exit. Same issue, really sluggish to go, wouldn't jump off but if I stood on it, it would meander along and then spool up and go fine with full rev etc. Cruising at constant throttle seemed fine, no problem so its getting fuel at high RMP just fine. No CEL yet. Let sit for about 90 min while I went flying then got in and hard start again (temps are now 95 deg at this point). Cranked and cranked but did start during the first cycle. Idled fine, took off fine. Drove about 5 miles or so, had a stop light. Stopped and as I accelerated it was sluggish again, would not rev up for a few secs then went, this time threw codes (I checked when I got home and had 14 codes showings. Two sets of P0087 and P0201 thru P0206). Low rail pressure, low fuel etc. Drove home another 40 miles, every time I would let off and it would down rev or go to idle down, then get back into it, it would really not want to rev up, then it would go. Again, not missing, just zero response and kind of dead if you will. Then if I was careful on throttle to inch it up and it would catch up and go. Then cruise fine until I let off again. Performance seems better at cruise, 1700 RPM and no change than at low acceleration.
Where do I start? I thought maybe lift pump but read about FCA and PRV or lift pump or even HP injector pump. Any advice on next steps is appreciated. I would rather not take to dealer if I can help it. Any good diesel mechanics familiar with these trucks would also be good to know if I cant figure this out myself. Thanks in advance.......
Signed - Distressed in Efland! ;-). Damn airplane also broke today so I'm about ready to go back to work for some peace.
