Does anyone on here build axle housing. this seems to be a popular thing in recent years and did not know if anyone around here is set up to do that kind of work or not. i have a project that I need some help on. Thanks

What are you building? Ive worked on this type of stuff.

I've seen several people on this website post pictures of modifying axle housings by narrowing them, widening them, turning the knuckles etc. Tell us more about exactly you are wanting to do.

I am wanting to take a Mitsu rear axle and combine it with a dana 44 to make a front steering mitsue axle.

I am wanting to cut the SR axle right at the 5" welded seem on either side of the pumpkin and cut the axle tubes off the dana 44 at the diff and put them togethor. By my measurements I should have 2" of play on both axle tubes to fit them into the SR housing. I got my idea down on how to do it I think. i need to make sure I get my caster angle the same on both sides and to some degree pinion angle, which I know I will get to mess with that more once I get my spring mounts in place. Thats where I am at. Any help on this would be great.

What's the ring gear size and spline count/dimensions ?

It looks pretty close to toyota sized, might be easy to drop the center chunk out and drop it into a solid toyota front housing.

Whats the application for that rear axle ? years etc?

D44 tube size vs. the mitsu tube size? Have you figured where you need to cut? Looks like you may need an adapter tube machined for the inner c's.

It is a 95 mitsu montero SR rear axle. It is 9.5" ring gear and 31 spline. The toyota is too small. The montero axle tube is larger than the dana 44. I do not have the measurements off the top of my head. I was going to cut the d44 at either side of the diff 16.5" on the picture.

I did this with a Nissan rear and a Dana 44. I had the tubes from the Dana turned down to an interference fit inside the Nissan housing. But no so tight I couldn't get them rotated to the right angle. This is cool because it makes a one of a kind axle, but at the same time, it sucks because your shafts HAVE to be custom made when you break one. Notice I said WHEN, not IF.
