here is what i think would be a good design for spring hangers for my inboarded leaves. if you cant tell from the pic it will basically be an "L" shape (black) around the frame (brown... its rusty :) ) with some kind of gusset/support (red, green) with two tabs for the shackle/springs to bolt to. oh yea, my drawing is waaay off too.
thoughts?

note that my springs are wider than my frame so the bracket has to be wider to accommodate

looks fine to me, but you don't need all that gusseting (green and red lines).

just put a verticle plate to "box" the frame, say, 6" on either side of the hanger and you'll be fine. (depends on what you plan on doing with it also) but for the most part, you should be fine with a verticle only plate.

here, i fixed your drawing for you. yours by no means was wrong, but it wasn't necessary, IMO.

my suggestion: lose the red gusset, and box in the frame. then, make a smaller gusset from the edge of the hangar up the side of the now boxed in frame...

EDIT: Rockcity Rob beat me to it.. so I'll just say :stupid:

you prob. could get away without the verticle piece on the back side of the frame that is already boxed, but if its easy to do, then go for it. but, if its hard to fab/get to, I don't think its really necessary. Do it if you can, but if its really hard and will look like crap if you do, then scrap it.

Here's what I did on my shackle hanger. Mine's outboarded, but you could do the same for inboarding

I used a 6x2 channel to make this out of. worked great with it's "built in gussets" :D

and my front hangers, again, all made from teh same 6x2 channel

Mine are 1/4"

weld it. all the gusseting doesn't do any good without it. especially if you box the frame there, it needs to be welded...

I'd use at least 1/4"

When I Build my spring mounts Im planning on using 3/8, and yeah definatly weld them to the frame. Unless for some reason you see yourselfe taking them off in the very neer future.
