i have been reading some stuff on the internet about making your own spring packs. i have seen that to do this a lot of times you have to cut down leafs to a smaller size.

what is the best way to cut leafs? with a grinder/cutting wheel? torch? and also do you cut off from one side only or equal amounts from both ends

this is prob a newb question but any input would be great

thanks in advance

you want to cut with a blade, not with heat or abrasion. Ive cut down a few leafs to use in other packs and i always used a portaband. Heat is the enemy of leaf springs. So whatever you can do to minimize the heat you use to cut them the better.

If you get them hot, the springs lose there temper, and act like a regular piece of steel, which is no good.

I cut the eyes off some, as well i have cut down some plain leaves to use in my XJ spring packs. I cut the ends off a few inches, and then cut a taper on each end, by about 3/8" on either side, about 2 inches long tapering off to the regular width of the spring.

just my .02

thanks i didnt even think about a portaband. eventually im gonna SAS my yota and i wanted to use my rears up front and mix them with some other yota rears.
