Cutting off in gear

Hey guys I just installed new clutches in my 97 Honda Fourtrax 300, everything runs fine after reassembly but the gear shifter is a little tight going into reverse or 1st and upon putting it in gear it immediately starts rolling and then cuts off, any suggestions?

I believe that is a "semi-auto" trans with a centrifugal clutch. If it runs fine in neutral and is hard going into first/reverse, then wants to roll as soon as it is in gear either your idle is too high (above the RPM threshold that the clutch springs hold the clutches off), or I'm betting something got put back together incorrectly. Either forgot a spring on one of the clutches or something got jammed in the housing and is binding the clutch.

Thanks guys, I’ll try the idle first because it is a little high and my old clutches were trashed.

Hey guys, just for future reference, I had the one way bearing in backwards, turned it around and solved the problem, thanks again for the help
