I keep wearing out the CV part of my rear driveshaft. have a 3.5"lift with adjustables all around. any thoughts? the cv constantly wears out and becomes extremely loose feeling and i can feel that when I start to pull off from starts. angle seems fine but may be off a little. pics attached

The angle looks fine. How often do you grease the joints and centering ball? Who built the shaft, i.e. is it balanced and straight?

universal drivelines in charlotte. the company that carolina rock shop used. I drive the jeep very rarely so i dont grease it often. just always seems to wear out fast regardless. used to have to grease it basically every two weeks...

Universal builds good shafts. Probably not the issue. Whay brand sye are you running? A bent or untrue output shaft could wear out the CV prematurely. It's that or a shaft that isn't straight.

It's all that hard core wheelin your doing.:flipoff2:

Hey Shawn, Do you have a motor mount lift on your Jeep? Not a bad way to cut that drive line angle down a bit. Not saying that's the problem but it may be worth a try.

I've never heard of an issue with an AA output shaft so that brings us back to the runout of the shaft. Other than that, I have nothing. The angle looks just fine. What's wearing out on the CV, the u-joints or the centering ball?

There's a rebuild kit for the cup that the centering ball goes in. I got one at a napa a few years ago, but I'm not sure they still have them in stock. If the ball keeps wearing out and the little cup part hasn't been rebuilt, it's wallowed out and will keep eating the ball. Honestly, it's just simpler to grab a good front shaft out of an explorer from the junkyard and have Universal shorten and balance it. Keep the old one as a trailspare.

I say to use an Explorer shaft instead of a Cherokee shaft because they're way more plentiful and use a larger diameter shaft but still have the same spicer 1310 joints. Most of the explorers I see in the junkyard probably have seen way less 4wd use and are generally cleaner underneath.

Actually, let me clarify the last post. If you're replacing the center part with the actual swiveling ball because it's wearing out the cup in it, the problem is with the cast "ball" that fits into the swiveling part. Those do wear out and become "unround". Damn it's hard to say what I'm seeing in my head.lol

Still, replacing centering balls is about the same cost as starting over with a cv that's in good shape.

each of the 4 previous times i've replaced it, I;ve replaced the whole part... cup, ball, greaseable section... that whole assembly. all of which universal just shipped to me as a whole and I removed a u joint and replaced it.
