The carrier on my d-30 looked fine at first...after thr cross pin broke and chewed up the gears.

Upon further inspection..the cross pin fits a little to loose now..at least at one end.

Guess i need a new carrier thats for the 488 gears....373 or lower gear type....355 wont work.

Anyone have any ideas or a carrier that will work?

i believe he is suggesting welding the center pin in, i agree why not, I can sell you a new one for $50 but what do you have to loose by welding it, some spider gears that will blow up anyways

i am lost on this stuff, but my buddy says..looks like you shouold get a new carrier or this pin might/probably break again and chew up new gears again.

So you guys are saying to just weld it up? Will this affect or change the fact that there is a lok-rite in there?

Fifty or so bucks for a new carrieR dont sound bad, but if welded, i could get to URE this SAT, a new carrier could take a few more days. Which is ok...I just want to wheel SOON!

if you get a new carrier, you'll need the gears set up again. 2-300 to set up one gear (or take the time and do it yourself) plus the 30 for the carrier and maybe a $110 master install kit. or weld it.
to be sure on the loket part in not sure. someone else will have to chime in on that

You will only need to reset the back lash on the ring gear, not a compete set up. Should be able to reuse all of your bearings, etc. unless they were damaged.
Carrier break on Dana 30s is 3.73 and numerically lower, 3.92 and numerically higher.

We have not installed the new gears/bearings/seals yet...so no problem there.
Just checking the fit of the pin, and it's not good.
No worries....A call to cperry at East coast gear supply , and I am set! Thanks Chase:beer:

Actually, 3.55 and down and 3.73 and up on a D30.(numerically)

Two sticks of 7018 welding rod!

Wouldnt this leave the front end locked and not be safe for on the road? That is if he takes this rig on the road.

My suggestion was to weld the cross pin so it would not move in the carrier, not to weld the spiders. Wouldn't hurt the locker. Weld the pin on both ends. The ends could be ground out if you ever needed to change it. I like to try alternate, some say redneck, engineering :) Sometimes it works, sometimes I have to come up with another idea.

This would have probably worked, but I would have had it in the back of my mind all the time. Hey, kinda like wheeling on a 30 to begin with, huh?

Hows the Bike running?:wheel:
