Short and Skinny:
Semi Exploded my hub, Bearings destroyed. So I have to replace my hub, only problem is I can't get the hub out of the knuckle no matter what. Since I have 4 spares in my backyard I decided to just replace the entire knuckle. Heres the problem. I've gotten the knuckle off of the ball joints mostly, only maybe a 1/2 inch left. (used a big hammer) but now the axle shaft u-joints are just laying on the bottom of the knuckle and preventing me from getting the extra little bit I need. Any suggestions  I"ll have pics in a few

I was under the impression that you had to remove the shaft/hub to get the kunckle off.... I may be wrong though..

Why cant you get the hub out of the knuckle? Can you cut it out?

Hub just won't come, we discovered the blown hub AFTER driving from Boone back to Greensboro (lucky to be alive) so who knows what that kinda heat could have done to it. I've tried everything, big guys, bigger guys, 6 ft steel prybars, little guys. Nothing

I suppose I could cut it out, but what would be the best thing to use for that? I'm gonna wind up having to cut the axle shaft to get it out if the whole knuckle won't come off

If you can't get the unit bearing out of the knuckle I'd see if I could get in there and cut the U-joint. that might give you the clearance you need.

But, persitance should pay off if you kep after that Unit bearing. It's not uncommon for them to be a MAJOR PITA t get out. keep soaking it in PB and hammering on it. then when you see it start to seperate, work a couple chisels in between the unit bearing housing and knuckle and slowly work it. I've spent a couple hours non stop working on those damn things before.

Oh, and rotate those damn pictures! my neck hurts looking at them :D

Just swap out the whole axle! LOL

Maybe you could use a big slide hammer or a puller tool. Or just put the jack under the hub and give it a little pressure.
