Hey guys I guess this is a really newb question. What is the purpose of a truss and is it worth spending the money on a D30 truss?

It gives the axle strength and keeps it from any potential bending. And I'd say yes that it is worth the investment if you plan on "using" the vehicle.

They look cool. Otherwise, pretty pointless in my opinion. The C's, unit bearings, knuckles ,balljoints and control arm mounts will be destroyed by the time you bend one. That rusty's piece is pretty much just an upper control arm mount gusset.

so waste of money in your opinion?

If you're planning on wheeling and keeping the 30 then I think it's worth it. If you plan to upgrade later, then don't waste your time. If you do truss it, make sure you also brace the inner Cs. They're more likely to bend before you bend the tubes.

A truss can certainly help on a 30, as ring and pinion failures can happen from housing flex (not allowing enough gear contact). If you wanna try to wheel a 30 hard, and have the money or spare time, do it.

Everyone has always told me dont fix it if it aint broke! The way I see it if a truss will make THAT much ofa difference and prevent the front from breaking then hell i deff say its worth it!

I was looking at the TNT truss actually, my only issues are it doesnt come with coil buckets, i still use factory upper control arms and well $405 im sure i can help a local fabricator out and have them make me one!

Heard that
