Ok my ax15 is taking a dump and my rear 4:88s are done so while my jeep is down for new gears and a new trans I got a d300 that already had a flip kit and atlas twin sticks. I have a full traction long arm with 3 link rear will I need to make a new tranny mount to mount to my belly pan? My orginal plan was get a nv3550 but I heard you have to put in a longer input shaft in the case. I didn't want to tear the case down until I put some 4 to 1 gears in it so I'm going back to an ax15. Can anyonr tell me if I will have to make a custom mount for the trans and case? I also ordered the novak adapter flip/clocking ring for ax15 to d300.

An NV3550 works fine with a Dana300, I ran that combo for several years and tens of thousands of miles. Since the D300 you have already has the flip kit, it probably has a clocking ring. If you are using the same transmission, you will not have to make a new mount for the transmission. The D300 can be mounted straight to the back of the transmission with no other support, be it AX15 or NV3550. I wouldn't rush out to try and find an NV3550 if you already have an AX15, I had to rebuild mine twice in 80k miles.

While only reason I wanted to go to a nv3550 was for the lower first gear. My buddy has a spare ax15 laying around and I'm gonna trade him my np231 for it. I'll see when the case gets here if it has the ring hopefully it does. But with the 4.1 gears would it be ok with the stock trans mount?

If you don't have a clocking ring it will still bolt on and work. There are two holes in the transmission that you have to elongate (I believe it's the top two). The 4:1 gears have no effect on how its mounted. The majority of the torque load is absorbed by the motor mounts, the trans mount is more to support the weight of the tranny/t-case. The lower 1st gear might be worth it for an NV3550. The gearing on a 3550 is fantastic for the 4.0 or a 4.0 stroker, but I've never driven one with an AX15, so I can't compare.

yeah i may still get the nv3550 or the newer 6 speed jeeps have now i just dont know bout the 6 speed cause i dont want to have to change the flywheel
