D300 fluid ?

i need to put fresh fluid in the d300 in my 83 CJ7

i know most cases take ATF...but wasnt sure about an older d300

should this take ATF also or gear oil?

That will be fine but if it's a trail only rig you really shouldn't bother with expensive gear oil. I used to run it but if you don't sustain highway speeds it's not worth it. I seem to leak or break enough that expensive gear oil didn't make sense for me. I'd say that's fairly common for a dedicated trail rig.
