Thins it out and seeps through threaded fasteners. Then the acetone evaporates leaving just the transfluid behind for lube. Also helps when heating, then use that lube, reheat, lube etc to work it into extremely rusty and tight fasteners.

Seriously beat out several other name brand lubes while working on a rusty suburban and a 68 Pontiac.

@Mac5005 thats really good idea I'd never thought about thinning trans fluid like that! Learn something new every day! Thanks gonna try this

The acetone also eats away the rust and penetrates deeper.

White vinegar is another good trick to use of rusted parts, esp if you can let them soak. Have used it to free old stuck engines with success.

@Mac5005 Any clue if I can premix it and leave it to have on hand?

I've used white vinegar on old tools also, I've found it does work good if you can soak it but not good results from bolts still on vehicle with vinegar!?

I've had similar results with it. We would fill the cylinders up and let it sit for a while.

Yes I️ premix it and keep in a small bottle with a long tube. After a while it tries to settle and separate, just shake to remix. If shaken well it doesn’t separate.

Ford atf won’t mix and doesn’t work as well

@paradisePWoffrd the last time I did a valve job on old rusty sbc heads I used vinegar in the valve with head upside down you could basically just wipe the rust off the valve and head I used atf alone and vinegar both with same results!

@Mac5005 good deal gonna give this the ultimate test! 79 sbc header flange bolts that haven't been turned in 30 years probably...
