hey yall hows it going? im looking for some ideas and pics of a d44 in a cj front end. im using a scout d44 and the springs are going to set out side the frame. whats the best way to go about this? i have some ideas but was just checking with others to see if there is a beter way .thanks bobby
I'm not savy with posting picks so I can only descride what I've done. Similar to the previous mounts shown I fabbed everything to bolt on to the frame and extended the front alittle and did the shackle reversal. I've also seen the fronts incorperated into the bumpers of some units. Also brace up the steering box area because outboarding the springs puts more stress on the frame. We ran a spring over; Wranglers, allitte too soft an incurred alot of spring wrap. Replaced a leaf with a Rancho add-a-leaf helped alot without running travel robbing traction bars. Strech the rear alittle while your at it if you don't mind fender trimming.
thanks warriorwelding, yea id like to move the axles a little further apart while im at it. im using stock yj springs with tads perches ,spring over axle. tads perches are longer and is supposed to help with axle wrap . im not sure what axle wrap feels like or what happends when it occurs and i hope i dont find out. we will see.
Axle wrap feels mostly like wheel hop. The spring flexes and bows alot before forward progress or wheels spin occurs. When the leaf finally wins it snaps forward usually breaking traction. In severe cases the spring can bend and most break. I've seen correct lenght drive shafts break and tear all kinds of gooodies up with them because of it. Also no amount of crazy shock configurations will solve the issue. They only slow the effect down because thats their job; dampening spring action not stopping it all together.
