I've got a 99 TJ with a D35 and I swapped in a D44 from an 06 yesterday. Now it seems like the stock driveshaft is too long. I can't get it compressed enough to seat the u-joint in the yoke. Anyone know what's going on? Is there something I have to change? Thanks for the help.

sounds like the driveshaft is too long, get it shortened.

Here's a bunch of should haves...
...grabbed the driveshaft that was with the 06 D44
...measured the distance from D35 yoke to tcase yoke. Then it would have been easy to figure out exactly how much to shorten your D35 driveshaft.

You can still measure both axles, from axle centerline to pinion yoke. The difference between the 2 will be how much to shorten the driveshaft.

If you measure from tcase yoke to D44 yoke with the Jeep on the ground, a driveshaft shop can figure out how much to shorten it.

Or just go ahead and add lots of lift to make the driveshaft fit

I just bought the axle off of someone on here so I can't get the 06 driveshaft.

I have been waiting to get a SYE and CV driveshaft I guess now is the perfect time. Was trying to see if I was missing something or there was an easy cheap fix to hold me over.

Call Dave at Olivers in Winston Salem. He can get you the SYE and fix you up on the drive shaft.

Yeah I had already got a price from Dave before I did the swap. Just got to convince the other half to let me spent it.

Tell her that you can't drive your Jeep until you get it fixed so you'll have to take her ride.

If you decide u wanna throw one in i got my stock shaft from my tj with the 44. $30 and im right by state
