At what point does one need to step up to the 35 spline stubs?

I am gonna run 39.50 pit bull rockers, full hydraulic & a spool in front. Chevy 4.3 TBI SM 465 tranny dana model 20 transfercase. 48 willys & approx 104 wheel base

Do you guys recomend them for this set up?

Thanks.

I'm in the same boat you are. Here's what I can up with and after seeing what the Brownhornet did this weekend I think I'm see this right. When a stock 30 spline shaft breaks it's not a clean break. This alot of time mushrooms the spindle. When a 35 spline shaft breaks it looks like it was rung off, not damaging the spindle. Splindles are getting harder and more exp to find...ie are $100 on ebay from what I was told. So think of it this way, run stock 30 spline stuff for now, break it, now the upgrade cost $100 more to do later rather than sooner.

Thanks for the input guys, I guess I'll have to drive like granny until I can afford them.

I broke 6 stubs, and each time it took out a lock out. This was in less than a years time. Shop around, and you can find some at a deal.

I've always heard the maximum limit for a 30 spline locked axle is around a 40" tire, so you're there. It's not an absolute must right away but get them whenever you can.

Chip, what size tire were you running at that time?

JT broke two 30 spline D60 stubs running worn out 38's. He messed up one of his spindles when one of them popped. You can get Spicer 35 spline stubs for $80/ea. A set of 35 spline lockouts will run you about $170-210.

Got a link for the $80 stubs?

I was running 39.5 Boggers, with two of the breaks, and then 44 TSL's with the rest. I highly recomend you go drive flanges, I have seen too many of the 35 spline lockouts bust. just too thin.
I will look and see if I still have the info on the Chromo's I bought

Ok, thanks

Chase, your the guy I am gonna call when I have the $$ together.

Chip,

how heavy is your foot?

Most broke on hard obstacles, continuous turning at maintained speed. Not really a full throttle assault

Depends on whether it's on the skinny pedal or when he's having an argument with Leslie

Excellent point!!

Dang, I guess prices have gone up! I just now looked at the place I thought I ordered JT's from a few years ago, and they are $100 now. I'd order them from CPerry.
