D60 Help

It's not too hard to twist off the pinion. Especially on a rear 60 or 70.

Really...have you twisted many off yourself? I've seen lots of stuff break but not seen that happen, well maybe if you bang it off a rock or something.

I would too unless your going to a big hp motor or bigger than 42's. The 70 and 14 bolt are ditch diggers, but if you've got the tire size and motor to offset the size then go for it.

You are probably right... I have only messed with kingpin 60's.

Do all BJ 60 knuckles have enough meat to machine and tap for highsteer?

Here's the only photo I could find of a BJ 60 highsteer. The bolts holding the arm in the picture are ghey, but at least it gives an idea of the setup. However, the knuckle doesn't appear to be stock. Anyone have problems running big tires and full hydro w/ only 3 studs holding the highsteer arms?

From what I know all the ford BJ knuckles are the same . . .

As far as mounting they are just dana 44 high steer arms, I remember a while back dude on pirate was worried about strength issues as well so he both bolted them down and welded the arm to the knuckle.

You said budget ? How much are you putting twards the swap? It can be done cheep, but it all adds up.. There was a thread a while back where everyone posted up factual info. on how much they had into the swap. It was comparing ROcks vs 1tons but the numbers still hold.. I'll see if i can find it..

Might also serve as a good list of things/parts etc. that people typically have to address with swaps..

I have a few months to squirrel away some loot, I'd like to get out of everything for 3500.00-4000.00, which looks possible after going through that thread.

Thanks for the help on this guys, like I said, I have a while before I'll really be looking to set up, but that'll mean I can keep an eye out for some deals.

From what I'm seeing it looks like 60/60 or 60/14 is where I'll go. I'm running a 4.0 and 38s, and am not really looking to venture into tires that are too much bigger.
